Ledaig 21 Year Old 1998 Marsala Cask Finish Description
A limited-edition 21-year-old from Ledaig that has taken the distillery’s signature peated expression and finished it in Marsala wine casks. This expression was distilled and filled into whisky refill hogsheads in July 1998 for 18 years, before being transferred into Marsala wine casks in October 2016 for a further 3 years. Just 1126 bottles have been produced, all at a cask strength of 55.8% ABV and without chill-filtration or added colouring.
Sweet peat arrives on the nose, alongside vanilla and citrus, with hints of sweet grape and dried fruit. The palate has a beautiful and creamy mouthfeel, with more dried fruit, developing into a smoky, almost medicinal character. The smokiness lasts in the palate, with a hint of toffee in the aftertaste.
