Celebrity-backed tequilas are not a particularly new phenomenon on the spirits scene, but 818 Tequila from model and actress Kendall Jenner has been much anticipated in 2021. Named after the area code for Calabasas, California, where the Kardashian-Jenner clan has lived for years, 818 Tequilas are a collection of Blanco, Reposado and Añejo tequilas.
Jenner announced that after “dozens of blind taste tests, trips to our distillery, entering into world tasting competitions anonymously and WINNING. 3.5 years later i think we’ve done it!”. 818 Tequilas garnered awards at several competitions, including the “Best Reposado” at World Tequila Awards and the Ultimate Spirits Challenge.All handcrafted and small batch tequilas, the agave are handpicked from the lowlands and highlands of Jalisco. The distiller’s registration number suggests 818 Tequilas are distilled at La Cofradia distillery, famed for its wide range of award-winning tequila brands.
Reposado tequilas spend anywhere from 2 months to a year in barrels, taking on a gold hue. 818 Reposado Tequila is a handcrafted, small batch Reposado tequila, made from 100% blue Weber agave and aged in oak barrels. Hard to find this economical deliciousness in Ohio (unless departing on an Allegiant flight) and I’d rather absorb a kick in the jewels than wait in line, in the early hours, on a designated date, at an insidious liquor store that withholds (hides) the vast majority of inventory for their “buddies”. Since I’m not dependent on the juice, I’m happy and willing to wait the 4+ weeks for delivery of this reasonably priced nectar at a REASONABLE price! Thanks, Bourbon Whiskey Distillery!
