Buffalo Trace Kosher Straight Rye Whiskey
Situated on the Kentucky River in Frankfort, Kentucky, Buffalo Trace Distillery takes its name from an ancient pathway that migrating buffalo used when traveling westward.
The trail was well-known among Native Americans and was eventually used by pioneering settlers who crossed the Ohio River and followed the buffalo trace to the Western frontier.
Buffalo Trace Distillery is the oldest continually operating distillery in the United States and includes the rich legacies of master distillers such as E.H. Taylor, Jr, George T. Stagg, Albert B. Blanton, Orville Schupp, and Elmer T. Lee.
Today, the distillery is still family-owned, operating on the same 130 acres of land adjacent to the Kentucky River as it has for over 200 years. Similarly, the distillery’s flagship bourbon has been made using the same process for over 2 centuries.
Buffalo Trace Straight Rye Whiskey was created in partnership with the Chicago Rabbinical Council. The partnership began in 2010 and is seeing the release of the first 3 expressions in 2020.
Utilizing the same high-quality mash bill as their other straight rye whiskeys, the spirit spent 7 years in kosher barrels that were sold to a non-Jewish executive. Bottled at 94 proof and released yearly after Passover, special care is taken to ensure that the whiskey has no contact with non-kosher spirits.

TASTING NOTES
It’s a rye-forward profile with the signature rye spice taking the spotlight. There is some brown sugar on the nose, while the palate has notes of citrus and cloves, as well as plenty of rye spice. Finishes long, spicy, and slightly warming.

Hard to find this economical deliciousness in Ohio (unless departing on an Allegiant flight) and I’d rather absorb a kick in the jewels than wait in line, in the early hours, on a designated date, at an insidious liquor store that withholds (hides) the vast majority of inventory for their “buddies”. Since I’m not dependent on the juice, I’m happy and willing to wait the 4+ weeks for delivery of this reasonably priced nectar at a REASONABLE price! Thanks, Bourbon Whiskey Distillery!

I’m not one to refrigerate my bourbon, preferring a room temperature shot from time to time. The first notes of Noah’s were wonderful. There was a soft heat and the fruity notes were lovely. As time went on and we got closer to the bottom of the bottle, it heated. Harshly. We are not aficionados and perhaps didn’t treat this whiskey quite right, but that last shot was really tough. I might take to refrigerating in the future …

Let me start by saying this is a good Bourbon for the price But the hype around it, is crazy. Great nose, mild flavor and warm finish. Good to have on the shelf but not Great.
