The decadent nose of ripe sherry fruit provides a successful counterpoint to the earth-driven barley flavors in this American malt. The palate has a nice weight and once again shows praiseworthy balance between sweet oak and savory grain.Made from 100% malted barley and aged in former sherry casks, this amber whiskey has a dry, bracing scent brushed with dried apricot and brown sugar. Just a splash of water brings out custard-like notes, alongside vanilla, chamomile tea and stone fruit, finishing with a wisp of smoke. Soft pancakes with maple syrup leads on the nose, closely followed by oatmeal raisin cookies and a selection of stewed yellow and green fruits. The palate adds some grapefruit to the pancake breakfast while the oatmeal raisin cookies begin to share the plate with some gingersnap cookies. With time in the glass, dried mango and star fruit emerge with a touch of kiwi to round things off.
